"Jog 4 A Paws,” a race to give special needs kids new “paws-
abilities.” By “paws-abilities,” we mean a service dog trained to
their very specific needs! The race was started by the family and
friends of Braden Haworth, who was born at 23 weeks
gestation. He weighed just 1 pound 6.9 ounces. Braden has
been diagnosed with autism, Spastic diplegia, non-verbal,
extreme developmental delay, total blindness, and a self-injury
behavior disorder. He also has many under lying health conditions.
When his family learned of the amazing things a service dog
would do for Braden, they were bound and determined to raise
the $26,000 they would need for the dog and travel expense for training classes to recieve the dog.Through the love and support of family, friends, and you, they are going to get a service dog for Braden and continue the race annually help other children! My Miracle
I never knew what it felt like to be truly blessed with a miracle and had always wanted to, little did I know, all too soon, I would get to experience just that. On August 13th, 2002 God gave me that little miracle, Braden Cole Haworth! Braden graced us a little earlier than plan, 4months too early to be exact. Born at 23wks gestation, Braden weighed in at a tiny 1pound 6.9oz. And was 12.5 inches long. The next few months of my life became a blur. Braden was expected to not live past day 3 of life....Braden just celebrated his 9th birthday!! Braden spent the first 125 days of life in the NICU, the toughest days Braden and I will ever have to go through! So many problems started to pop up, something new every day. It seemed he was having more bad days than good. He lived off complete life support including the ventilator for about the first 2.5 months. He developed 2 brain bleeds shortly after birth, a grade 4 on the left and a grade 1 on the right. He had problems with his PDA valve closing and also experienced seizures daily for about 3months. Over the 4month stay Braden also developed ROP, retinopathy of prematurity, which has now caused him to be completely blind. Finally after 125 days in nicu and weighing 5pounds 9oz, Braden got to come home just in time for Christmas! From that day on, my life changed even more. Instead of the normal daily grind of work, ours became doctor appointment after doctor appointment, but even doctors couldn't help sometimes. On Jan 1st 2003, On our way to take him to the hospital, Braden went code blue, laying purple in my arms, I couldn't move, all i could do was scream and cry! God again gave us another miracle, giving Braden life again! I'll never forget this, the first time we saw his new neurologist at children's mercy, he just kept saying, “Wow, I can not believe he is still alive, he is truly an everyday living miracle"! Over the Past 9 yrs. we continue on with doctors’ appointments and hospital stays! The nurses at Wesley know us all too well! Braden has been diagnosed with Autism, developmental delay, spastic diplegia, complete blindness, severe self-injury behavior disorder and he is also nonverbal. He has some under lying health conditions as well, but overall is doing very well today! The one thing I have learned over the past 9yrs is that with faith, love, and support all things are possible! “I live by this verse;
Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
